The Antioch Sequoits Girls Flag Football team continues to build a legacy of excellence â and now theyâve added another championship trophy to the case. On Wednesday night, the Sequoits defeated the Huntley Red Raiders to claim their second consecutive IHSA Regional Championship, advancing to the McHenry Sectional where theyâll face Round Lake on Monday, October 13th at 3:00 PM.
Head Coach Tammy Johnsonâs squad displayed poise, grit, and resilience, rallying after a tight first half to take control of the game behind explosive plays on both sides of the ball.
A Championship Performance
The turning point came midway through the third quarter when the Sequoits capitalized on a Huntley turnover, tying the game on an 18-yard touchdown strike from quarterback Tanner Ludwig to wide receiver Evie Baronello.
Ludwig was sensational, finishing with 193 passing yards and three touchdowns on 19 completions, while also rushing for 55 yards. Baronello made her presence felt with three receptions for 61 yards and two touchdowns, including the 25-yard go-ahead score down the sideline that gave Antioch its first lead of the night.
Queenslandâs Historic Night
Defensively, it was a night to remember for Reese Queensland, who recorded four interceptions, setting a new school record. Her awareness and athleticism completely shifted the momentum â with two of her picks coming on consecutive Huntley drives late in the second half, both leading to Antioch touchdowns.
Teamwide Contributions
The Sequoitsâ defense came up big throughout the night. Rylee Dunlavy was relentless in the backfield, tallying two sacks, including a crucial third-down stop to halt a Red Raider drive.
On offense, Abbigail Fuesting powered the ground game, racking up 99 rushing yards and a touchdown, while adding six receptions for 54 yards and another score on a 23-yard swing pass from Ludwig. Fuesting sealed the victory late in the fourth quarter with a dazzling 23-yard touchdown run, eluding multiple defenders to put the game out of reach.
Next Stop: McHenry Sectional
With the 20-6 victory over the fourth-seeded Raiders, the fifth-seeded Sequoits now advance to the McHenry Sectional Semifinals, where theyâll take on Round Lake. First snap is set for Monday, October 13th at 3:00 PM at McHenry High School.
The Sequoitsâ combination of offensive balance, defensive dominance, and relentless energy makes them a formidable contender heading into the postseason.
Congratulations to Coach Johnson and the entire team on their second straight regional title â another proud moment for Sequoit Nation!
